A recent story by TVO's Steve Paklin said that being homeless can add 12-15 years of wear and tear onto a person, so a homeless person in their mid-fifties is more the equivalent of someone in their seventies. As well, while many people suffering from mental illnesses are homeless, surprisingly many only acquire those issues after becoming homeless. Rain City Housing in British Colombia produced an informative video that briefly looks at some of the more common myths.
